Ian Hinley (b.1991) is a painter from the North of England, where he currently lives and works.

His dream like paintings fuse realism with magic and the past with the present. He is particularly focused on the human figure in art, fascinated by the path it offers the viewer to understanding of other lives and experiences, which of them unify us, and which separate us.

“ I often play with setting and context, sometimes echoing long-standing traditions and sometimes employing a more personal language of colour and symbolic objects. I’m always trying to subtly subvert the expectations of the viewer in an attempt to encourage thinking about the work as more than “mere” representation. However, there is a delicate balance to strike between the odd and the expected. My goal is never to confuse or exclude the audience with visual riddles, but rather to enrich the experience of looking. Fundamentally I strive to give life to the image, to paint a window into another world - the interior world of lived experience.”
